COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Erie County will host Fall Fest at Como Lake Park in Lancaster on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hayrides, free pumpkins, face painting, live music by The UP Guys and Ten Cent Howl, and vendors—officials advise parking at William Street School and taking the free shuttle to the park.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Catholic Diocese Bishop Michael Fisher will travel to Rome in October with COO Richard Suchan & Vicar Bryan Zielenieski to discuss issues like bankruptcy restructuring and the use of parish funds for sex abuse lawsuits. Canon Law expert Philip Gray said the move is unusual and that church practice normally does not involve publicizing such plans.  WBEN

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A month after the Thruway bus crash, Buffalo hospitals are still treating injured passengers + Oishei Children's Hospital is set to discharge its last crash patient Tuesday while ECMC will care for two passengers for a couple of weeks.  The Buffalo News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sumitomo Rubber Industries announced it will open a technical center in Getzville with 40 positions in engineering and professional roles; the company cut 1,500 jobs when it closed its tire factory in Tonawanda last November.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo’s Integral Health uses AI to combine behavioral health and primary care and is among 16 semifinalists for the 43North competition in October—competing for one of five $1 million prizes. Finals will be held Oct. 16 at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.  The Buffalo News
  • Dottie Gallagher, who has led the Partnership since 2013, is giving up her president duties while remaining CEO and will retire in June 2026—Grant Loomis, the chief operating officer, will soon take on the role of president and become CEO after her retirement. The leadership change is part of the Partnership’s plan to continue its business advocacy work in the region.  The Buffalo News
  • Rich Products launched the limited-edition James Cookie in Buffalo in partnership with Bills running back James Cook—featuring praline-coated pretzels, rice crispy crunch, toffee bits, white chocolate and red, white, and blue sprinkles. The cookie is now sold at local stores including Tops, Delta Sonic, Kwik Fill-Red Apple, Crosby's and Bella Pizza.  WGRZ
  • Dottie Gallagher, who has led the Buffalo Niagara Partnership since 2013, will retire in June 2026—Grant Loomis is set to take over as president and CEO of the 1,200-member group. She signed her final five-year contract in summer 2021.  WBEN

  • Tomorrow, New York Starters Coalition of Right to Start will launch a statewide initiative to boost entrepreneurship in Buffalo at the 43 North Cafe at Seneca One from 8:30 to 10 a.m.—bringing together founders, policymakers and community leaders to tackle barriers for new businesses.  The Buffalo News

  • Officials say new subway restrictions that limit student metro passes have reduced large fights downtown, but concerns have shifted to safety on the Metro Rail—where added patrols and rail stickers on passes aim to curb teen misbehavior. Buffalo Schools and the NFTA will review the policy based on data and community feedback.  The Buffalo News
  • Hot water has returned to all dorms at Buffalo State today after a leak left students without it for over two weeks—university officials said additional repairs are planned and students will receive credits for the disruption.  WGRZ
  • A Georgetown University study finds that a UB education costs more than ever but will pay off with nearly $2.3 million in returns over 40 years. The report shows that rising tuition has not stopped UB from offering strong earning potential for Western New York students—highlighting that college remains a worthwhile investment.  The Buffalo News

  • Buffalo firefighters had water supply problems while fighting fires on Grace Street and Victoria Avenue in the past 13 months, with one blaze causing $600K in damage and a homeowner losing their house. City lawmakers questioned why 5,274 red-top hydrants gave low water pressure—asking the fire and water departments to present a plan to fix the issue.  ABC 7
