ECONOMY NEWS

  • Skilled tradesmen in Western New York are busy as nearly 2500 workers build the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park & the Amazon Fulfillment Center in the Town of Niagara, marking a peak in local construction activity & signaling more projects on the horizon.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amherst GOP candidate Dan Gagliardo said he planned to sue the Town Board and Erie County if they approved the $1 transfer of the 171-acre former Westwood Country Club — a move he called a backroom deal that gives away a $7.8 million taxpayer asset. The Town Board met Thursday at 4 p.m.—if the sale was approved, his attorney was set to file an Article 78 lawsuit.  WBEN
  • Buffalo will host the Clean Slate Legal Clinic on Sept 29 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Central Library—this one-day event will provide one-on-one legal help, a youth-led panel, and a $75 gift card to assist justice-involved young adults in clearing past records and finding jobs and housing.  WGRZ
  • Three mayoral candidates—Sen. Ryan, Gardner, and Gainer—met with Allentown residents at the Theatre of Youth Company to detail plans for new City Hall leadership, closing the budget deficit, and directing resources to neighborhoods before the November 5 election.  ABC 7
  • Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo said over 5,000 of the city’s 8,000 hydrants had low water volume after firefighters struggled to control a blaze in Central Park on September 5 — Council Member Zeneta Everhart requested a public map of hydrants and more frequent inspections to help affected neighborhoods on the East Side and University District.  WBFO
  • Erie County legislators asked the state Attorney General to probe DJ Granville’s case after he crashed a county truck into seven parked cars, and a news conference about the letter was held today — Granville will return to work next week after his 30-day suspension ends and he signs a plan to repay the county for the damage.  The Buffalo News
  • The University at Buffalo will receive $68M in state funds to decarbonize its central utility plant and build energy hubs, thermal energy networks, and geothermal wells—part of its plan to boost green energy.  The Buffalo News
  • Mayor Chris Scanlon warned that appealing a judge’s order—mandating Comptroller Miller-Williams to sell $110 million in bonds for city projects—would be irresponsible, while her attorney William Savino said an appeal is likely; Scanlon added that any delays could raise costs by pushing projects into a pricier construction season.  WBEN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Manhattan-based Mercer Street Partners closed a $32.4 million deal on Sept.25 to buy the historic New Buffalo School of Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management building on W. Huron Street—one of this year’s largest downtown deals in Buffalo. Buffalo Public School remains its only tenant with a ten-year lease, and proceeds from the sale will be used to fund a new commissary for local schools with construction beginning this fall.  WBEN
