BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ingram Micro is moving over 1,000 workers from Williamsville to downtown Buffalo as it converts 160,000 square feet at 257 West Genesee Street into a modern facility—construction began after demolition and will finish early 2026 to boost local business.  ABC 7

CRIME NEWS

  • Erie County lawmakers and Comptroller Kevin Hardwick sent a letter asking Gov. Kathy Hochul and AG Letitia James to probe the case in which D.J. Granville, the Sheriff’s Chief of Narcotics, crashed a county truck into parked cars last April causing about $60,000 in damage and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and leaving the scene+ Sheriff John Garcia suspended him without pay though he is expected to return soon.  Spectrum News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Buffalo Museum of Science has completed a $2.6 million renovation of its north facade and front steps, which have been unusable since 1977 — the project also adds ADA-accessible features to improve visitor access.  Spectrum News
  • Buffalo native Jay Dref, trained at Juilliard, will sing with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Showstopping Pops concert today at Kleinhans Music Hall. He will also perform the national anthem at the Bills game tomorrow to mark a special homecoming weekend.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo’s Essex Street Arts Center is getting $140,000 from the state to upgrade 5,000 square feet of studio space—new windows, doors, lighting, plumbing and electrical work will be installed while a new mural is painted outside. Assemblyman Jon Rivera helped secure the funds.  Spectrum News
  • Joel Magee, known as The Toy Scout, will show his vintage toy collection at the Courtyard Marriott in Amherst (4100 Sheridan Dr.) from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4. He has spent twenty years traveling the nation buying, selling and collecting toys, giving local fans a unique chance to see his work.  WGRZ
  • Pete Gallivan looks into how Haudenosaunee history helped shape the US Constitution — a report that shows how Native ideas still affect American laws.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Buffalo Diocese asked a Catholic foundation for $15M toward its $150M settlement for sex abuse claims, but the foundation rejected the request due to its funds being restricted—lawyers for both sides are now disputing the diocese’s efforts to review the foundation’s independent governance in a hearing set for Oct. 9.  The Buffalo News
  • Amherst’s Town Board approved selling the former Westwood Country Club for $1 to develop Willowdale Park — the county’s first in Amherst— and GOP candidate Dan Gagliardo filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court over the deal, claiming it shows a disregard for taxpayer funds. The lawsuit follows board meetings held earlier this month where the agreement was made.  WBEN
  • Denise Abbott — a 55-year-old nurse — was elected president of the Western New York Area Labor Federation, becoming the first woman to hold the role in its 24-year history. She succeeded Peter DeJesus Jr. and now represents over 150,000 union workers from our region.  The Buffalo News
  • Michael Gainer, Buffalo's Independent mayoral candidate and longtime East Side resident, told WBEN Friday that while violent crime remains low, non-violent crimes and broader economic issues call for robust community investment and youth training programs. He said he will transform the Kensington Expressway project by shifting traffic to key commercial corridors—Genesee, Seneca, Broadway and Kensington—to boost local economic opportunity.  WBEN

  • Thirteen-year-old Morgan Dale from Niagara Falls has battled aplastic anemia after a severe nosebleed led her family to rush her to treatment—she received a bone marrow transplant from her sister, Jules, at Roswell Park. She and Jules also designed a custom Bills cap for Oishei Children’s Hospital that quarterback Josh Allen now wears at home games to help raise money for the Patricia Allen Fund.  The Buffalo News

  • Dave Levinthal, who once earned Bills season tickets by delivering newspapers as a boy, has rejoined the season ticket list and secured new end zone seats, and he will attend the Sunday game against the New Orleans Saints at Highmark Stadium—marking his return as a season ticket holder for the first time since 1996.  The Buffalo News
