  • Students at Buffalo State broke boards to raise money for Oishei Children's Hospital in a board-breaking contest that packed the arena. The event has raised more than $1.7 million over the years.  WGRZ
  • Amanda Drury repairs broken Power Wheels at her farm to save toys for local kids and mend her grief after losing her sister in the Tops shooting in Buffalo in 2022—she will host a Power Wheels party in October and plans to share repair videos to help others fix them.  Spectrum News

  • Stir Fry 88 has opened in the Walden Galleria food court, offering Asian-inspired dishes including custom options. Town supervisor Brian Nowak said the opening—its 37th new business since 2020—shows a promising future for the mall.  WGRZ
  • Developer Douglas Jemal has agreed to sell Boulevard Mall in Amherst to Benderson, ending his six-year plan to transform the 64-acre center into a town center with stores, apartments and offices. The sale is expected to close soon—within 45 to 50 days—and the town will work with Benderson to decide on demolition and reuse options.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo Starbucks baristas rallied outside the Elmwood Avenue store on Saturday to demand better staffing, pay and workplace protections in a protest—part of a national wave spanning 35 cities. Union members said the picket was a rehearsal in case union talks lead to a strike while the company had recently announced store closures and layoffs.  WGRZ

  • More than ten local designers showcased their work at a New York Fashion Week—style event in Downtown Buffalo Saturday night, highlighting local talent in a dynamic display.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state Supreme Court judge struck down two lawsuits by parishioners who opposed giving 80% of their unrestricted funds to cover a $150 million abuse settlement, ruling that the dispute must be handled in the church's own courts—upholding the diocese's authority—and the Vatican is reviewing appeals.  Spectrum News

  • The Sabres extended their lease at KeyBank Center until 2031 by using an option available until Sept 30—this decision comes after recent upgrades to the arena and plans to discuss a long-term improvement strategy that may involve local public assistance. The move positions the team to boost events and enhance the arena's role in downtown Buffalo.  WBEN
  • The Aquarium of Niagara held its annual Sea Lion 5K with runners starting and finishing at the Great Lakes 360 building—participants enjoyed scenic views along the Niagara River Gorge.  WGRZ
  • Bills quarterback Josh Allen will wear a cap designed by 12-year-old cancer patient Charlie at the Week 4 game against the Saints—he will auction the cap with a colorful brim that carries MVP to benefit the Patricia Allen Fund at Oishei Children’s Hospital.  WGRZ
