COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Big Ditch Brewing and YMCA Buffalo Niagara launched Turkey Trotter— the official craft beer for the Turkey Trot—marking the fourth year their partnership supports YMCA programs across Western New York. The blonde ale is available now in six packs or on tap at Big Ditch’s downtown taproom at 55 East Huron St and will be served at the post-race party during the Thanksgiving tradition.  WGRZ
  • Residents at Eagle Crest Mobile Home Park in Hamburg say conditions are getting worse—rat problems, rising rent, and falling apart repairs have made life harder. Lawmakers and local groups will work on solutions and schedule repairs in November to help keep residents safe.  ABC 7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Niagara Falls City School District is partnering with Say Yes Buffalo to launch a community school program that will offer Saturday Academy classes, workforce development apprenticeships and a youth leadership program called Breaking Barriers for young men of color. The program will start on Oct. 4 at Cataract Elementary — the first of 16 Saturday events for the 2025-26 school year.  Spectrum News
  • Say Yes Niagara Falls launched today as local families gathered at Abate Elementary School to celebrate a new initiative—modeled after the Buffalo program—that offers free Saturday Academies with enrichment classes, meals and recreational time. The program aims to boost student learning and plans to raise $10 million for future scholarships with more events starting on October 4.  WGRZ

  • Today is the deadline for the Diocese of Buffalo to submit its $150 Million bankruptcy proposal to the court – attorney Steve Boyd said the proposal will be reviewed by all parties and, if approved by a vote, will move to a confirmation hearing where victims will later be paid.  WBEN
  • The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo submitted its $150 million bankruptcy proposal by Wednesday’s deadline and attorney Steve Boyd said the plan will be reviewed in court and then go to a vote—if approved, a confirmation hearing will let victims start receiving payments. Debates over parish contributions and potential closures remain as the bankruptcy process moves forward.  WBEN

  • Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy after he started experiencing mild symptoms on Saturday and visited Buffalo General Hospital—tests ruled out a stroke and he is now recovering while urging anyone with similar signs to get checked out.  Spectrum News
  • At Buffalo Niagara International Airport and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site on Delaware Avenue, local residents have expressed anger over the federal government shutdown as TSA workers act without pay and travel delays may grow. The TR site said it will remain open because it funds itself — a welcome service amid worries over the shutdown.  ABC 7
  • The Canada Border Services Agency said the system outage that affected commercial traffic to Canada beginning Tuesday morning is fully resolved and that drivers now face only short term delays as processing returns to normal on the Lewiston—Queenston Bridge.  WBEN
  • Governor Hochul spoke on the government shutdown and its effects on New Yorkers — she said federal services might be disrupted if no resolution is reached and more details will be provided as the situation unfolds.  WGRZ
  • Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Assembly Member Patrick Burke questioned why the state's Public Service Commission scheduled no public hearings on NYSEG's proposed rate hikes—affecting communities such as West Seneca, Orchard Park, Cheektowaga, and Lancaster—saying local input is needed to address concerns about rising utility bills.  The Buffalo News

  • The Bills will debut their new Cold Front uniforms in a white-out game against the Patriots on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. at Highmark Stadium—fans are asked to dress in all white and will receive rally towels as the icy designs pay tribute to Buffalo.  WGRZ
  • The Bills signed punter Mitch Wishnowsky on Tuesday to replace Cameron Johnston, who injured his left foot and ankle last weekend. The 33-year-old, known as Boomin’ Onion for his strong leg, joins after six seasons with the 49ers—he will help in the upcoming game against New England.  Spectrum News
