  • Buffalo will lose its major daily newspaper in four weeks as it stops printing seven days a week (due to declining ad revenue and an aging reader base). SUNY Fredonia professor Mike Igoe, a former Channel 2 reporter, said the change shows a growing trend among big newspapers.  WBEN

  • Buffalo neighborhood groups joined forces to form the new Scajaquada Heritage District that spans key sites on the West Side and Black Rock, including Freedom Park and Delaware Park—efforts intended to boost tourism and future local growth.  WBEN

  • A certified financial planner from Wilcox Financial Group shared advice for retirement planning for people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.   • Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight's first all-female mission will fly to Washington, D.C. despite the government shutdown.   • Roving lane closures will affect Buffalo highways this week—motorists should plan for delays and consider alternate routes.  WGRZ
  • The Village of Orchard Park is holding its second open house on Oct. 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—a meeting where residents will share ideas to shape the village’s first comprehensive plan—so local opinions will help guide future planning.  The Buffalo News
  • Former Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown attempted to donate $1,500 to Sean Ryan’s campaign on Sept 17th, but the donation was rejected — his campaign said the refusal will be reflected in amended filings — as Ryan repeatedly criticized Brown’s tenure.  WBFO
  • Gov. Hochul said she will decide soon on the Medical Aid in Dying bill that would let patients with less than six months to live ask their doctor for a self-administered medicine if approved—changing end-of-life care in New York.  The Buffalo News

  • On Sunday night at Highmark Stadium, Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw a pass that a fan in a Matt Milano jersey caught before sprinting up the stadium steps—announcer Mike Tirico remarked on the play. On the very next play, Allen connected with Curtis Samuel on a 6-yard touchdown that gave Buffalo its first lead.  WGRZ
