  • The first all female Honor Flight returned home from Washington D.C., saying the trip was emotional.  WGRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gyuzo Japanese BBQ will open an all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ restaurant at Walden Galleria by year's end in the 9,000-square-foot space that Santora's Pizza Pub & Grill left—this restaurant will let diners grill premium meats, seafood and enjoy sushi, ramen, and desserts.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo began celebrating Italian Heritage Month on Sunday with a special Mass in Italian and a wreath-laying ceremony at St. Anthony's of Padua, and events including concerts, cooking classes, and lectures will run through the month to honor Italian culture— the festivities will peak on Saturday when the 21st annual Italian Heritage Parade starts at 1 p.m. from the corner of Delaware and Hertel.  WGRZ
  • The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights will return to The Fairgrounds in Hamburg from Nov. 28 through Dec. 30, featuring over 70 drive-thru displays and walk-around attractions with new ticket options—tickets go on sale Nov. 15 online. The event will also offer special days such as an Opening Night with a tree lighting, a Silent Night sensory event, and a discount night on Dec. 7 for families planning their holiday visits.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city announced it is updating its Homestead Plan to let qualified residents and organizations buy city-owned vacant land for less than fair market value at $1,000 per lot— a new program set to encourage the reuse of abandoned properties across Buffalo— aiming to promote redevelopment in overlooked areas.  The Buffalo News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Thousands gathered at Buffalo Outer Harbor on Saturday for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to support local families—raising funds for research and care. The Alzheimer’s Association said that all money raised stayed in Erie County to help those affected by the disease.  WGRZ
  • State Sen. Patrick Gallivan urged Roswell Park and Independent Health to negotiate a new Medicare Advantage reimbursement deal before the current agreement expires on January 1, 2026—if no agreement is reached, Roswell Park will stop accepting those patients as in-network.  WBEN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Former Sabres owner Tom Golisano will buy the five-story Buffalo News building on Washington Street, including an adjacent parking lot, as the deal from developer Douglas Jemal is set to close this fall. Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon welcomed the plan—saying it shows strong support for downtown revival.  WBEN
  • The weak retail market now must handle 68 empty Rite Aid stores—adding nearly 900,000 square feet of space—that are hard to sell or lease; some sites have shown buyer interest while many remain empty as the vacancy rate grows in the Buffalo Niagara area.  WBEN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Bills will play the Falcons tonight at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and try to fix mistakes from last week by working on ball security and reducing turnovers—coach Sean McDermott said the team will also focus on limiting running back Bijan Robinson as key players return while others remain injured. The team plans to adjust its defense to counter a strong air attack and improve overall play.  WGRZ
  • RIT commemorated the Buffalo Bills’ final season at Highmark Stadium by capturing a 360‑degree extended exposure photo on Saturday in Orchard Park—this special image will be displayed in the new stadium when it opens next year.  WBEN
  • The Bills face a tough challenge as Falcons running back Bijan Robinson uses his skills as both a runner and receiver to push his NFL-leading average of 146 yards from scrimmage per game. Teams must prepare to adjust their defense against his dual-threat performance.  WGRZ
  • College hockey season is underway as Canisius and Niagara built top records in the AHA with Niagara at 3-0 after wins over St. Lawrence and Bowling Green and Canisius at 3-1 after wins over Clarkson and St. Lawrence and a split with LIU. Niagara will play Union on Oct. 17th and 18th while Canisius will face Army on Oct. 14th and then Colgate on Oct. 17th and 18th — setting up important conference matchups.  WGRZ
  • Close to 50 Bills fans left Buffalo Niagara International Airport on a group trip called Mafia on the Move to follow the team to Atlanta—kickoff is at 7:15 p.m. today.  WGRZ
