- ➤ Five Western New York community groups are each receiving a $100K grant from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management — the funds will help support housing, childcare, and job skills training in areas hit hard by past drug policies. D’Youville University is using its grant to launch the Refresh Community Mental Health Project that will serve 300 young adults in Buffalo’s underserved neighborhoods. WGRZ

- ➤ Too Good to Go launched in the Buffalo area to help reduce food waste by offering surprise bags of unsold food from local restaurants, bakeries, and stores (prices range from $3.99 to $5.99). The free mobile app now partners with over 300 food businesses including those in Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany (providing a budget-friendly way to try meals before closing). Spectrum News

- ➤ Documentarians from Spain and Mexico have come to Buffalo to create a Spanish-language film about Jaime Nuno (a Buffalonian who composed Mexico’s national anthem and taught music in the city for nearly four decades). The film (titled 'The Forgotten Trunks of Jaime Nuno' and featuring interviews with his descendants) will air on public broadcast networks in Spain and Mexico. WGRZ

- ➤ The Buffalo Board of Education approved nine members for a new committee that will recommend closing at least two schools by the end of the current school year—this is part of a right-sizing effort to avoid over $200 million in deficits, including an $83 million gap next school year and job cuts of 180 this year and 120 next year. - ➤ The Golisano Institute in Buffalo will enroll its first local students in fall 2026 as it launches a two-year professional certificate program in business and entrepreneurship. The program joins the institute’s flagship school in suburban Rochester—opened two years ago—to expand advanced training in the region. The Buffalo News

- ➤ Patients with Independent Health’s Individual Medicare Advantage plan will face high out-of-pocket costs at Roswell Park starting January 1, 2026 — affecting about 5,500 patients. Roswell Park CEO Dr. Candace Johnson said she learned of the change months ago — and the hospital has set up a hotline, 1-800-ROSWELL, to help guide patients. WGRZ
- ➤ More than 2,800 union workers at three Catholic Health hospital campuses voted overwhelmingly to ratify new four-year contracts late Wednesday & the new deals are worth $30 million more than the 2021 agreements. The Buffalo News

- ➤ The Pan-American Square Building now offers 150 affordable apartment units for seniors and vulnerable residents in North Buffalo—meeting local housing needs. WGRZ
- ➤ A new affordable housing complex finished construction on Buffalo's West Side to offer 150 apartments, with 100 set aside for vulnerable residents such as seniors and those experiencing homelessness. NYSHCR and local partners will provide on-site services like transportation and healthcare coordination — the project also features outdoor greenspaces and a bike path. WGRZ
- ➤ The City of Buffalo, with its Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency and the NFTA, has selected NYC-based Albanese Organization to lead a planned $191.3 million project on the 11-acre LaSalle Station site near Shoshone Park. The project will include three apartment buildings with 465 units — housing workforce, affordable and market-rate tenants — and a new transit facility, with work expected to begin next year. WBEN
