BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twin sisters and Canisius alums Alisa Officer and Alicia Officer-Foot have opened a new café in Science Hall at Canisius University—serving local coffee, bagels and fresh salads Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for students and the public.  WGRZ
  • The Lombardo family announced on Instagram that The Little Club on Hertel Avenue will close after service on November 8th after serving Buffalo for seven years. Customers’ gift cards will be honored at Ristorante Lombardo — located directly across the street.  ABC 7
  • Two new wine bars, Amelia's Barrel & Board and Concord, are planned to open in Elmwood Village in the coming months, as reported by Buffalo Business First.  WGRZ
  • Firetruck manufacturer E-ONE in Hamburg is holding a hiring event on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 4760 Camp Road—open positions include painters, welders, and industrial pump assemblers. The former Community Beer Works building at 520 7th Street is up for lease—while a developer bought land for a new BPS commissary on Buffalo’s East Side with construction set to start this fall.  WBEN

CRIME NEWS

  • The Buffalo community gathered Tuesday night to honor Carlos Rodriguez Jr., a 32-year-old killed by an alleged drunk driver near Broadway Avenue and Wick Street — the driver, Danielle Davis, was arraigned Tuesday and now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and DWI.  WGRZ
  • Bishop Michael Fisher suspended Reverend Patrick T. O'Keefe over sexual harassment allegations—a canonical judicial review will examine the claims as he was removed from ministry after serving several parishes.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo State will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 for the Karner Hall rehabilitation project that cost $18.8 million. The project transformed the aging storage facility into a modern hub for the University Police Department, Custodial Services, and support functions—boosting campus operations—with extensive renovations.  Buffalo State University
  • Buffalo special education teachers are saying classroom conditions are too hard and are asking the district for help. Teacher Christine Pullen from Discovery School said her self-contained classroom—one of over 100—faces challenges she has not seen in 30 years.  The Buffalo News

  • The Alden Town Board will vote on November 3 on a $40 million cannabis production facility proposed for the former Erie County Home & Infirmary on Walden Avenue—this project by brothers Luke and Ryan Rich may create up to 150 jobs and start pre-construction work this fall if approved.  WBEN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior forward Diego Rivera leads Buffalo State men’s soccer team with 22 goals and 52 points as he nears season records. The Bengals remain unbeaten in conference play — they will begin a final regular-season game at 4 p.m. today at Oswego State — and aim for a strong postseason run.  Buffalo State University
  • Every starting player for the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 had played for the Buffalo Bisons, showing a strong link that began when Buffalo became their Class AAA team in 2013. Bisons leaders also noted the team's role during the COVID pandemic helped both players and staff advance with Toronto.  WBFO
