  • Joanne Zimmerman, a 90-year-old who has worked at Alethea’s Chocolates in Clarence for over 40 years, stays busy every day out of love for her work. Her dedication makes the shop feel like family—she says she would work even without pay.  ABC 7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Around 100 Sodexo employees in Buffalo ratified a 3-year contract that raised their pay by more than 13% after a protest, and festival organizers will move the Buffalo Wing Festival to August 29th and 30th next year due to a scheduling conflict with the Bisons. BryLin marked its 70th anniversary with a staff celebration featuring commemorative gifts, while Frontier High School named Joseph Ciesielski Jr. as its new principal.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hallmark released new images for its upcoming Bills-themed Christmas movie Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story that highlights Buffalo local spots—Paula’s Donuts and Highmark Stadium—to celebrate local pride.  WGRZ
  • At the Centro Culturale Italiano di Buffalo, monthly Cucina Con events let local chefs teach Italian recipes and share their heritage with community members. The events take place on November 5 and November 19, cost $35 for members and $50 for nonmembers, and support a mission founded by a local family—preserving a rich cultural tradition.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Since Oct. 20, high school seniors and other students have been allowed to apply for free to all SUNY schools and select universities, with each student able to submit up to five free applications—saving them up to $250 until Nov. 3. SUNY Chancellor John King said Buffalo State is showing recovery while the University at Buffalo is growing fast thanks to over $500 million in new investments for AI research.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo School Board West District election has incumbent Jennifer Mecozzi facing challengers Mustafa Abdo and Talia Rodriguez—each bringing different backgrounds and priorities to the race.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie County officials warned that over 140,000 residents could face SNAP & HEAP benefit disruptions next month if the government shutdown continues. Families are advised to check their support arrangements to prepare for any changes.  WGRZ
  • Erie County officials warn that if the government shutdown continues, SNAP benefits for 78,000 households and home heating aid may be delayed—families may need to seek alternative help. Gov. Hochul announced the heating program is postponed to Nov. 17th—lawmakers must reach an agreement by Nov. 1st to resume normal services.  WBFO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A $34 million adaptive reuse project is converting the former Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital into 80 affordable housing apartments aimed at local families with incomes between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income. Construction began in September 2024 and is now 60% complete, with work scheduled to finish in July 2026 — adding community features like a courtyard and on-site laundry.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Buffalo Pro Soccer is in final negotiations for a new stadium site—downtown remains under consideration. The group plans to choose a location that will bring professional soccer closer to local fans.  The Buffalo News
  • Rob Santiago, nicknamed Beer Shower Bob, started a trend by pouring ice cold Labatt blue light on his head after every Bills touchdown in section 314, a dare turned fan bill of joy.
