BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starbucks Workers United, which represents more than 12,000 baristas at over 650 stores, is launching a strike authorization vote Friday as contract talks remain stalled. Union members demand better staffing and scheduling, higher pay, and a fix for unfair labor practices — rallies are planned nationwide.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • A brightly painted replica of the Seneca Chief is slowly retracing its 200-year Erie Canal journey from Buffalo along the canal and down the Hudson River, and it will dock in Manhattan this weekend. The wooden boat, built by over 200 volunteers and aided by a tugboat, gathers water and plants white pine trees—symbolizing a tribute to the region's indigenous heritage.  Spectrum News
  • Hallmark released new photos of a Bills Christmas movie that shows local pride with scenes at Paula's Donuts and Highmark Stadium—this film will air at 8 p.m. on Nov. 22 on the Hallmark Channel and includes appearances by Bills stars and legends.  WGRZ
  • Western New York celebrated the Erie Canal's 200th anniversary at Canalside where a historic marker was unveiled — special presentations highlighted the canal's role in shaping regional growth.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State DMV and DEC warned drivers to look out for deer and moose as their movement increases during the fall breeding season—reduced visibility at dawn and dusk raises collision risks and recent data shows wildlife-related crashes remain a serious concern.  WGRZ
  • Erie County officials warned that over 140,000 residents could miss SNAP and HEAP benefits next month if the shutdown continues—County Executive Mark Poloncarz urged families to rely on food pantries and local aid while waiting for federal funding to resume.  WGRZ
  • Communities across New York are fighting childhood poverty as about 1 in 5 children live in poverty every year; local groups are uniting to support families in need. The Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council is working with lawmakers in Albany + advising on plans such as expanding the child tax credit and countering federal cuts.  Spectrum News

  • The Maternal Health Resources Fair connected community members with vital services in maternal health, housing, food, and general health resources+ providing needed support to local residents.  WGRZ
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Friday that more than $35M has been allocated to help 47 Planned Parenthood clinics keep offering services amid federal funding cuts—ensuring that New Yorkers can still get care like cancer screenings and prenatal care.  WGRZ

  • The Town of Lancaster opened a new multisport turf field at Walden Ponds Sports Complex to host football, lacrosse, soccer and other activities. Officials said the state-of-the-art facility will benefit hundreds of young athletes and serve as a hub for sports events throughout the year.  WGRZ
