COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Buffalo Catholics are doubtful after Bishop Michael Fisher returned from Rome with few clear details on the Road to Renewal program that is closing parishes. The bishop promised to boost communication with parishioners while local critics say the top-down approach has left many questions unanswered — 32 parishes have filed appeals.  ABC 7
  • J.P.'s Pub Restaurant & Banquet Facility in Lakeview announced on Facebook that it will offer free meals to families in need if SNAP benefits run out when the government shutdown continues after Nov. 1+ FeedMore WNY and partner agencies are preparing for a food crisis that could affect more than 201,000 community members.  Spectrum News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Evergreen Health began selling its Allentown property at 186 Allen Street for $1.8 million—after it changed plans to use the building for a dental office, pharmacy and administrative space because of funding cuts. Council member Nowakowski said the move shows how federal funding cuts are affecting local health services—highlighting challenges in meeting community needs.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Buffalo CEO Patrick Kaler said downtown needs at least 400 more hotel rooms—downtown has only 1,500 out of the county's 10,061, which cost the local economy over $50 million in lost meetings and conventions. The Buffalo Grand remains closed after a December 2021 fire and will take years to reopen due to ongoing legal and financial challenges.  WBEN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Immaculate Conception Church has been turned into the Assembly House, a unique site where artist Dennis Maher created a space for construction training. The site now offers programs such as the eight week SACRA course and will host its final public tour on November 8.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cancer survivors in New York rallied for new legislation that could help fight cancer by supporting bills like the Metastatic Breast Cancer Access to Care Act—an effort led by the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. Survivor Rachel Collins, who faced invasive ductal carcinoma in 2022, joined others in speaking on Capitol Hill as they urged lawmakers to take further steps to reduce harmful exposures.  Spectrum News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new house was built on Calumet Avenue as part of a $24.5 million program by Buffalo, Erie County and the Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corp. to turn 52 empty lots—47 in Buffalo and 5 in Cheektowaga—into affordable two- and three-bedroom homes for eligible buyers; prices range from $190,000 to $252,000 and work on more lots will begin in 2026.  WBEN

  • Jordan Poyer returned to the Bills after a season in Miami and will start at home in the Bills—Chiefs game on Sunday. He said he is ready to run out of the tunnel and make every play count as he embraces what he calls his last season.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Bills running back James Cook III got AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after he ran 216 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Bills' 40-9 win over the Panthers on Sunday. It was his first honor this season and he posted the most rushing yards by a Bills back since 1976.  WGRZ
