BUSINESS NEWS

  • Market in the Square in West Seneca is cutting prices on key groceries to help local families during a government shutdown that delays SNAP benefits — the store offers lower prices on eggs, ground beef, and chicken breasts among other essentials. Owner Nick Kazmierski said the discount program will continue as long as the benefit delay lasts — shoppers can take advantage of the community helpers pricing to stretch their budgets.  ABC 7

  • On November 7, Buffalo City Hall held its third annual flag raising during Native American Heritage Month. Seneca Nation members said the event showed that their history and culture remain vital as students and a local dance group joined the proceedings.  WBFO
  • Bishop Michael Fisher met with Pope Leo XIV and Vatican officials to discuss the diocese bankruptcy and plans to merge or close parishes—his remarks indicated that the restructuring may soon change how local parish services are run.  WGRZ

  • In Buffalo, *dozens* of flights were canceled or delayed today due to *FAA air traffic cuts*.  WGRZ
  • Governor Hochul signed a new anti-bullying law that requires all schools—including private ones—to put clear rules in place and train teachers to handle bullying both online and off campus. Named the Jack Reid Law after the bullied teen who died, the act aims to protect every student by enforcing clear reporting and investigation steps.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Western New York Compassion Connection is the area’s first peer support grief center — it holds group sessions and school outreach for children and families facing loss — and its trained facilitators help kids as young as four learn that grief is a natural part of life.  WGRZ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Erie County set a new record this year with 87 homes selling for over $1 million and buyers from higher-priced markets boosted luxury sales in areas like Clarence, Orchard Park, Buffalo, and Amherst. Pending deals mean the county is expected to reach between 90 and 95 such sales by Dec. 31—marking a 58% increase over two years.  WBEN
