COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Angola restaurant owner Edmundo Estrada is giving away 5 free meals per day to families in need at Tilted Taco on Lakeshore Road — he started the effort after the government shutdown and colder weather and will serve a sixth family if requested.  ABC 7
  • Buffalo Sabres partnered with Audacy Buffalo and Tops Friendly Markets—organizing Turkeys for Tickets, a turkey drive to benefit FeedMore WNY and Buffalo City Mission—on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Fans who drop off a frozen 20-pound turkey at any of the three local sites will receive a voucher for two Sabres game tickets.  WBEN
  • The Chippewa Alliance is hosting a community meeting, and details on time and location will be announced soon.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Police and acting mayor Christopher P. Scanlon delivered 6,724 pounds of food from a weekend citywide drive to FeedMore WNY, which will use the donations to support food pantries across several counties. Residents dropped off items at North Park Community School and Peter J. Crotty Casino at Cazenovia Park + the drive comes amid rising need as federal shutdowns and SNAP disruptions have increased hunger in the area.  ABC 7
  • Rustic Buffalo will host the Holiday Sip n’ Shop event at The Kenan Center in Lockport from November 14th–16th where visitors will sip beer or wine while shopping at over 170 local artisan booths and will receive a five-dollar shopping coupon with five-dollar admission.  WGRZ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • FX Matt Brewing Company sold its Flying Bison Brewing brands to Hamburg Brewing Company — transferring the recipes and trademarks to bring the iconic brand back to Western New York roots. Hamburg Brewing will continue producing the beers and adjust its seasonal lineup — while the Flying Bison Taproom is set to close on Nov. 29.  WBEN
  • Americarb Inc., a Niagara Falls manufacturer of graphite and carbon products, announced it will expand its plant with a $29 million project that adds 50,000 square feet and doubles its local workforce. The work will start early next year — the decision was supported by a nearly $13 million contract with the Department of War and a tax break package from the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency.  WBEN
  • Moog was named Business of the Year by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership for its strong leadership, growth and community commitment, with the award to be given at the BNP Economic Champions celebration on November 18th (its first-ever event). Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is a finalist for Newsweek's Best Native American Casino for the second straight year, while Saks Off 5th will close at the Fashion Outlets in January and gas in Buffalo jumped 2 cents since last Monday due to refinery work in California.  WBEN

  • The Goo Goo Dolls will return to Buffalo to hold a benefit concert that will raise funds for FeedMore WNY—supporting local food assistance efforts.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Attorney General has secured an emergency order for SNAP — the county executive said 96% of SNAP households in Erie County will receive full benefits.  WGRZ

  • Cole Bishop had his best performance yet in last Sunday's win over Kansas City — he made seven tackles and broke up four passes to boost the Bills' defense. The second-year safety has overcome past injury setbacks and now works hard to meet his high expectations as he grows as a key player.  Spectrum News
