COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Broadview donated $100,000 to help local hunger relief by funding food pantries, meal programs and shelters including FeedMore WNY. SNAP benefits have started arriving in Erie County as Gov. Hochul directed full federal benefits for November.  Spectrum News
  • Today, several events will take place across Western New York—honoring veterans by highlighting their service and sacrifice in community gatherings.  WGRZ
  • Members of the Buffalo Bills visited the VA center yesterday to honor veterans for Veterans Day—recognizing their service during this local tribute.  WGRZ
  • Because the government shutdown stopped SNAP benefits, more families are coming to the Kenmore North Buffalo Food Pantry—household visits rose from about 25 to over 60—and the pantry now needs donations and extra volunteers to serve people in the 14214, 14216 and 14217 areas.  WGRZ
  • The Goo Goo Dolls will perform at Town Ballroom next week in Buffalo to raise funds for FeedMore WNY so local food banks can get extra support—Robby Takac said the show was organized quickly after news of rising need. Takac, a Buffalo native who still calls the city home, noted the benefit returns the band to its early club days and will help supply crucial hunger relief during the holidays.  WGRZ

  • Voices of our Veterans: Women Warriors of WNY aired on 7 ABC on November 11 and will have an encore at 5:30 p.m. on November 14—this special shared the stories of 35 Western New York veterans on the first all-female mission with Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Record-low temperatures shocked the southeast on Tuesday as freeze warnings affected 18 million people, and Buffalo along with nearby cities experienced 2 to 6 inches of snow under a winter weather advisory — forecasters say a new storm system will bring more snowfall today.  WBEN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul announced $61M in grants for stormwater projects statewide; Buffalo will get $10M to lower runoff and improve water quality in Scajaquada Creek—part of a plan to protect homes from flooding. State officials said the funds will help fix old sewers and keep neighborhoods safe.  WGRZ
  • More than 100 New York Army National Guard members returned to Buffalo on Veterans Day after a nine-month deployment in Africa—where they worked on over 200 base improvement projects in Kenya and Somalia—as families greeted them with emotional reunions at the airport.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Meredith Roberts, a 17-year-old swimmer from North Tonawanda, has been admitted to the ICU at University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital after dark urine and rising bilirubin levels pointed to a severe liver problem possibly linked to Wilson's disease. Her family is urgently seeking an O positive living donor to enable the needed liver transplant so she can eventually return to swimming.  WGRZ
