COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Police officers and Lake Shore staff played a charity basketball game on Wednesday evening to collect food and hygiene donations for local families in need this holiday season—organizers say the event built strong ties between law enforcement and educators.  WGRZ
  • Teams have been selected to build affordable homes on the East Side—officials plan to start the project soon to boost local housing options.  WGRZ
  • The Ken-Ton Closet and Lockport City School District are urging the community to donate children’s winter clothing as families struggle with reduced SNAP benefits—Tonawanda donations are running low and Lockport is accepting donations through November 16 with cleaned coats to be given out early December. This effort helps local families manage higher food costs while ensuring kids stay warm this winter.  ABC 7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters rescued two small dogs from a house fire on Claremont Avenue in Tonawanda Wednesday night—residents escaped safely and were treated for smoke inhalation.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo State University faculty and staff are highlighted this month - Professors Cappella, Bard and Bontempo had their paper accepted for the Oxford Education Research Symposium in July on volunteerism and social justice, where they will present their work. HEALTH NEWS

  • Meredith Roberts, a 17-year-old swimmer from North Tonawanda, was rushed to hospital in late October after dark urine and high liver levels led doctors to diagnose her with Wilson’s disease—she now is being treated at UPMC as her family waits for a living-donor liver transplant. Her state ranking means she will miss an important competition, and community supporters have sent hopeful messages.  ABC 7

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mayor Chris Scanlon announced that 51 vacant city lots in Masten Park and Hamlin Park will be turned into affordable homes under the Legacy Cities program — five developers have been chosen and construction could start within the next 12 to 18 months. The project may serve as a model for using more city-owned lots for housing.  WBEN
  • Erie County's record for $1 million+ home sales rose to 90 this year after a four-bedroom house in Orchard Park sold for $1.225 million and a century-old home in Buffalo sold for $1.2 million. Highmark launched its unHungry food donation initiative for local pantries with an event on November 22 — a retail building in Cheektowaga housing a dispensary sold for over $2 million.  WBEN

  • Bills defensive back Cam Lewis has built his 7-year career by playing many roles such as corner, nickel, safety and dime — he said staying ready is key when the NFL is unpredictable.  WGRZ
  • Receiver Gabe Davis said the Bills must play to their standards to fix their passing game as they prepare to host Tampa Bay on Sunday — he is ready after recovering from a knee injury while teammate Joshua Palmer also returns from injury practice.
