COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families visited McKinley Mall for Rally to the Rescue (a pet adoption event) where they met cats, dogs, and small animals (each showing its own charm).  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon gave the Key to the City to Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins on November 14th at Niagara Square—local officials celebrated his work as founder of Dion’s Dreamers with a live National Anthem by Sydney Sterlace and a lineup of food trucks.  WBEN
  • Buffalo residents held a fundraiser Saturday evening — they raised donations to help Jamaica recover from a category five hurricane. Community leaders said the event provided much-needed aid for ongoing relief efforts.  WGRZ
  • The Terrace at Delaware Park is partnering with the Kenmore Farmers Market to create a space for locals to shop and connect in Delaware Park. The market aims to draw shoppers who support local vendors.  WGRZ
  • On Saturday, the William-Emslie branch of the YMCA held its annual Day of Giving event by providing free Thanksgiving turkeys—winter wear, emergency food kits, and a job fair—to help local families.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A committee is weighing several factors to decide which two Buffalo schools in receivership will close—final recommendations will be announced soon.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Western New York towns have changed their winter parking bans from planned dates. North Tonawanda and Tonawanda will begin enforcing the ban at 3 a.m. on Dec. 1 — Cheektowaga moved its start to Nov. 15 while Clarence and Orchard Park kept their original schedules.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A 17-year-old from North Tonawanda in need of a liver transplant found a donor match after a massive community response — local residents stepped up quickly to help his chance at recovery.  WGRZ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin returned to the ice on Saturday in Detroit after taking a leave of absence to support his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, who was recovering from an emergency heart transplant. He assisted on the overtime winning goal in a 5 to 4 comeback and said that Carolina has improved each day.  WGRZ
  • On November 16th, fans enjoyed the first-ever Rally Day at Highmark Stadium ahead of a Bills game–attendees toured restricted areas, met Bills legends, and visited team mascot Billy Buffalo.  WGRZ
