COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Route 20 Ice Cream has turned its freezers into a service for giving away groceries to families in need this evening at 2783 Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park — the owners aim to reach 800 families over four dates to help those facing high food costs.  ABC 7
  • Two Western New York women created front yard food pantries in North Tonawanda and Kenmore to give free groceries to families in need—helping neighbors who face high costs stay nourished. Robin Nowicki’s pantry in North Tonawanda and Colleen Orgek’s in Kenmore are restocked often so locals can get food when they need it.  ABC 7
  • The Buffalo Bills will host a Thanksgiving Blitz at Feedmore WNY that will donate food to local families for the holiday season. The event will boost support for residents in Buffalo + strengthen community ties during the holiday.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo Bills' quarterback Josh Allen and safety Damar Hamlin invested in a venture fund headed by startup investor Jack Greco to boost local startup opportunities—helping founders attract vital venture support.  The Buffalo News
  • Michelle and Dave Bartlett from Old Forge paid over $1,000 for Bills tickets on StubHub for a Sunday game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Orchard Park—but they did not receive their digital tickets by kickoff. They later chose a full refund when the alternative seats did not meet the value of their original purchase, and StubHub apologized while offering complimentary tickets for a future game.  ABC 7
  • London-based startup Cosi Care will build a manufacturing facility in Buffalo next year as it expands operations into Western New York.  The Buffalo News
  • A Canadian solar power company with a U.S. headquarters in Rochester plans to build a solar farm on a former chemical plant and landfill site in Buffalo— a closed state Superfund site.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo is facing a deep financial hole — local official Ryan asked state officials in Albany for help to form collective solutions. Ryan said he does not have complete data yet but wanted to alert everyone about the urgent need for action.  The Buffalo News
  • Save Our Buffalo Churches is leading a coalition to free $1 Billion in funds from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for the abuse settlement—$120 Million will repay parishes and the rest will cover St. Clare’s Hospital employees' pensions. The group says a law from Albany must be passed to release the money, and some lawmakers already support this effort.  WBEN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Buffalo families and businesses are preparing for the holiday season as a Trouble in Toyland list from the New York Public Interest Research Group warns that some toys with AI features and items like water beads or knockoff E-scooters might be unsafe—experts say these toys can risk privacy and cause choking hazards, so parents should learn CPR.  WBFO
  • Amherst-based Independent Health announced its new affiliation with Albany-based MVP Health Care, which will soon serve nearly one million members in New York and Vermont—leaders said the deal is expected to improve care and support community health pending federal approval.  WBFO
  • A study published in October in the New England Journal of Medicine involved 879 patients with degenerative knee conditions, with more than half from Western New York and treated by UBMD. The research found that home exercises and in‑person treatment produced similar improvements—indicating effective non‑operative options for managing knee pain.  WGRZ

  • DASNY approved $68M for the Fox Run expansion — the project will build 63 new apartments in the senior living center.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo men’s basketball defeated RIT by a score of 80 to 64 on November 15 with sophomore guard Daniel Freitag (27 points, his career-high) and senior guard Noah Batchelor (14 points) leading the team; the Bulls will play the Vermont Catamounts on November 18 at 6:30 p.m. and the VMI Keydets on November 24 at 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena.  The Spectrum
