  • Families enjoyed skating at Canalside on Thanksgiving — the event saw people lacing up their skates for a fun day in Buffalo.  WGRZ
  • Volunteers from across Western New York gathered at the Buffalo City Mission in partnership with Wegmans to load vehicles with holiday meals during the Turkey Express on November 27th. The program increased its meal count from 5,000 to 5,500 to help more neighbors (including seniors) and (people facing hardship).  ABC 7
  • Buffalo offers a range of family-friendly holiday events today—Buffalo Holiday Markets open outdoors with vendors and crafts, Poinsettias After Dark lights up the Botanical Gardens, Hamburg hosts the Festival of Lights, the final weekend of Wicked runs at Shea’s, and the Sabres will face the Devils at KeyBank Center.  WGRZ
  • Alex Johns and his 21-year-old brother Nate are living with Buffalo's homeless this week until Saturday to follow their father Rev. Eric Johns’ 25-year tradition of inspiring giving.  The Buffalo News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Buffalo Skyway has been closed since Wednesday after a crash caused delays and weather challenges—New York State Department of Transportation said restrictions on empty trucks and trailers will end at midnight.  WGRZ

  • The Better Business Bureau has warned online shoppers to use a clear plan with a shopping list and budget before Thanksgiving and Black Friday, noting that unrealistic offers are red flags — they also urge consumers to support local shops on Small Business Saturday.  WGRZ

  • Buffalo State University campus arborist Steven Sypniewski was named the PLANT WNY Person of the Year on November 13 for his long service with the organization — he follows in the footsteps of his father, who was honored in 1978.   • After being waived by the Saints, veteran receiver Brandin Cooks is eager to join the Bills and make Buffalo his next productive stop—he said he intends to remind the league that he is still a playmaker.  WGRZ
  • Holiday Valley in Ellicottville is testing its new snowmaking system around the clock to prepare for its ski season opening next Friday, weather permitting. Resort officials say the upgraded system and ready lifts will give skiers and snowboarders a strong start.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo hosted the 130th Turkey Trot race on Thanksgiving morning—drawing 14,000 runners—to honor a long-held local tradition.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Bills reported that key players including starting offensive tackles Dion Dawkins—concussion and Spencer Brown—shoulder did not take part in practice ahead of their critical Week 13 game—other players like wide receivers Joshua Palmer—ankle and Curtis Samuel—elbow/knee were also sidelined while tight end Dalton Kincaid returned on a limited basis. The team said full participants such as quarterback Josh Allen and defensive end Joey Bosa practiced as they prepare for the upcoming contest.  WGRZ
