COMMUNITY NEWS

  • West Seneca residents experienced repeated power outages since November 26 as dead trees fell on power lines, leaving about 375 customers without power during a recent storm. NYSEG said its crew is inspecting areas like Theresa Court & Westgate Boulevard to remove hazard trees and help prevent future outages.  ABC 7
  • Bonnets for Babies group is asking for coats and boots during their clothing drive and has created an Amazon wish list to help donors give easily — the effort supports local families in need.  WGRZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, a Buffalo family suffered a devastating house fire on French Street that killed two young children and left several family members, including injured parents, hospitalized, while surviving siblings Noah (6) and Rosie (4) are now cared for by their father's cousin, Jayjay Rojas, as the fire damaged two nearby vacant homes, killed the family’s dog and two cats, and is under investigation.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Williamsville native Dr. Kristen Oehlrich became the new chief executive of the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls and told a Buffalo media outlet about preserving women's history and the many local connections among the over 300 inductees. She said the Hall needs more financial support as it works to keep these important stories alive.  WBFO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New York’s new distraction‐free schools law shows positive results as over 350 school districts reported that 83% now see improved student engagement and classroom environments. Governor Hochul said Tuesday the cellphone ban is helping schools transition smoothly—boosting effective teaching since the law was implemented this year.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Department of Transportation said it is still developing repair plans for the Union Road Bridge in West Seneca, and lane restrictions remain in effect as drivers face worsening traffic during winter — delaying a clear finish date. Local commuters continue to deal with the prolonged construction and its impact on their travel.  ABC 7
  • The restored DL&W station will open December 8 (the first light rail extension since 1985). NFTA confirmed the schedule (marking a key update to local transit).  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local high schools are taking part in the Coaches vs Cancer event this Wednesday at Daemon univestity to support the American Cancer Society—teams will raise funds to aid cancer research and treatment.  WGRZ

  • Erie County Stadium Corporation approved multiple housekeeping measures for the new Bills football stadium at its meeting Monday—officials said the steps were designed to improve operations for upcoming games.  WGRZ
  • Visit Buffalo has secured the American Jump Rope Federation national championship at Buffalo State University from June 17 to 21, 2026—expecting at least 750 jump ropers and an economic impact of over $1 million. CEO Patrick Kaler said the event may lead to more unique bookings if it earns positive feedback.  WBEN
  • Josh Norris returned from injury and scored two goals plus added an assist as the Sabres beat the Jets 5-1 on Monday night. He scored later in the first period and early in the third period, and his teammates helped secure the win.  WGRZ
