COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, Save Our Buffalo Churches announced that the Vatican revoked merger decrees for Our Lady of Peace Parish in Clarence and Holy Apostles Parish in Jamestown. This win adds to earlier victories that revived St. Bernadette Church in Orchard Park and Our Lady of Bistrica Parish in Lackawanna.  WBEN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trader Joe's will open its new store at 5017 Transit Road in Clarence on Friday, Dec. 12. The store has hired over 60 employees + received transferred staff and will donate unsold products to local nonprofits daily.  WGRZ
  • An Illinois company invested over $3 million to launch a Cheektowaga plant that will produce lithium battery parts for up to 11,000 electric vehicles a year, creating about 20 jobs. The plant is set to boost local green manufacturing & supply chain competitiveness.  WBFO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo State is set to host Bengala + Runway 2026 on April 25, merging its scholarship gala and student-run fashion show to raise funds for local scholarships and celebrate creativity. Tickets launch in February 2026 and the event is presented by the New Era Cap Foundation.  Buffalo State University
  • Buffalo Schools is restructuring operations by closing schools and eliminating positions + exploring new revenue opportunities to build long-term stability. The approach will impact staffing and services as details are unveiled later this year.  The Buffalo News
  • Buffalo State students were honored at the SUNY ESSC 2nd Annual Summit in Albany on Dec. 6-7. Alana Jacowitz received an Excellence in Service award — campus coordinator Denise Harris praised the 12 students for their paid community service that builds lifelong skills.  Buffalo State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New soil tests from East Buffalo reveal lead levels averaging 642 PPM, far exceeding EPA limits and alarming many residents. Experts with Open Buffalo met Monday night at the Delavan Grider Community Center to discuss remediation methods including planting heavy metal absorbing plants — a proposal for future community action.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo’s downtown terminal opened Monday at DL & W Station with over 100 guests and dignitaries in attendance. NFTA will seek new bids next year to develop the second floor while adding a truck elevator, skywalk, and patio deck, and artist Harumo Sato unveiled Tapestry to celebrate local diversity.  WBFO

  • The Buffalo Bills and Erie County will salvage and repair stadium seats from Highmark Stadium for sale from February through May 2026 — full seats cost $550 and double bleacher seats cost $650, with orders shipping from April and a local pickup option available.  WBEN
