CULTURE NEWS

  • The Buffalo History Museum was reaccredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the highest honor given to museums, continuing its tradition since 1974. Other local news includes a delayed golf entertainment complex aiming to break ground next spring, a property sale in Tonawanda, and strong home sales in Erie County.  WBEN
  • Buffalo History Museum was named among 1,100 accredited sites in the U.S., marking its fifth national honor since 1974. The museum is planning major exhibits in 2026 including a Goo Goo Dolls exhibit + a celebration of the Pan American Exhibition’s 125th anniversary.  WBFO
  • A pre-Civil War church on Hickory Street in Buffalo's East Side has been designated as a local landmark after 165 years of serving four congregations. The building is now officially recognized for its historical legacy.  The Buffalo News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve cut its benchmark rate by a quarter point to about 3.6% — the lowest in nearly three years — potentially lowering borrowing costs for mortgages and loans while reducing yields on savings, including local accounts. Residents in Buffalo may notice gradual changes in their banking rates.  WBEN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DEC has launched the 'Don't Be Salty New York' campaign to urge residents and owners to reduce rock salt use during winter weather and protect water quality and infrastructure. Officials say using less salt, shoveling first, and using brine can save money and avoid pollution.  WGRZ
  • The New York Power Authority will install the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom as early as December 14 near the outlet to reduce ice jams that may damage shoreline property and disrupt hydroelectric flow. NYPA and Ontario Power Generation share operation (installation depends on water temperature).  ABC 7

  • New York's Division of Consumer Protection warned residents to protect holiday packages amid rising theft after $16 billion in losses last year. It offered tips — including real-time tracking and scheduling deliveries when someone is home — to help keep packages safe.  WGRZ
  • Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro has introduced a resolution supporting a bipartisan state bill to require schools to honor valid medical exemptions so Depew High School senior Kayci Rae can return to class. Local health experts & physicians have backed the proposal as talks continue in committee sessions.  WBEN

  • Meredith Roberts, a 17-year-old competitive swimmer from North Tonawanda, was released Tuesday from UPMC Children's Hospital after a 33-day stay for an urgent liver transplant & she is now at Ronald McDonald House while planning to return to competitive swimming this fall.  ABC 7
  • Santa visited Sisters of Charity Hospital's NICU yesterday, taking photos of newborns and awarding two nurses with the DAISY Award — an international honor recognizing exceptional care, with a former patient joining the festive scene.  WGRZ
