  • Nine-year-old Eddie Golden, fighting leukemia, will light Roswell Park’s Tree of Hope during a holiday celebration—an event that showcases his courage and brings hope to the community.  WGRZ
  • SPCA Serving Erie County's annual radiothon raised $132,000 by 6 p.m. Thursday to support animal care programs, and officials said the funds will help expand services for local animals.  WBEN
  • Local nonprofit Build Promise is partnering with attorney William Mattar and Bills running back James Cook to support men facing homelessness; the organization currently opens on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and offers a limited-edition shirt sale that donates $10.44 per purchase to expand its services.  WGRZ
  • Local groups are partnering to expand shelter services to help more residents with temporary housing & support the community. Officials said the project will add capacity as local needs grow.  WGRZ

  • Trader Joe’s opened its new store in Clarence today, adding a fresh grocery option for local residents — the expansion brings a wide selection of unique items to the area.  WGRZ
  • The Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy launched the 'Foolish Club' fundraiser offering perks for a $25 donation to support playgrounds, trails and athletic fields. A Williamsville restaurant will rename to Ziki Greek in January, and investors bought a former child care center (901 Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda) for $590,000.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • La Cocina De Titi & El Rincon Dulce De Titi opens today at West Side Bazaar at 1432 Niagara St, with festivities starting at 12:30 p.m. The event will include a Pentecostal blessing, ribbon-cutting, live music, Christmas lights, and free gifts for the first 50 children.  WGRZ
  • Akron High School's 'Santa Band' spread holiday cheer as it played festive tunes during its winter concert series (bringing smiles to local communities) across Western New York.  WGRZ
  • Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld revealed their pregnancy Friday via Steinfeld’s 'Beau Society' newsletter, marking a new chapter for the couple. The announcement came with a video (28-second) showing Allen kissing Steinfeld’s belly as fans shared in their joyful news.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two members of a Buffalo Schools closing committee recommended that the Early Childhood Center (School 90) and the D'Youville Porter Campus (School 3) close; the superintendent will decide on next steps soon.  The Buffalo News
  • The Buffalo Center for Arts & Technology held its graduation on Thursday night at Hohn Auditorium at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, awarding national certifications to about 90 adult students who trained in allied health fields. They are now ready to advance their careers in pharmacy, phlebotomy, and medical administration.  ABC 7
  • Empire State Development announced $7.4M in funding for digital literacy statewide, including a $736,587 grant to Buffalo City School District Adult Education Division to support digital and cybersecurity training, create a device lending library, and train staff for local schools.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Hochul visited Maple West Elementary in Williamsville on Friday to mark more than 150 million free meals served since school began in September + the law now provides over 2.5 million meals daily and saves families up to $450 million each month.  WBEN
