COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Town of Hamburg and West Herr Automotive Group announced the new $9 million Senior and Community Center will be named for longtime chairman Brad Hafner. The center at 2892 Lakeview Road will host expanded programs and open near the end of 2026.  WBEN
  • Buffalo leaders are hosting a holiday ham drive to support local holiday meals + boost community spirit. The event will collect hams and share details on drop-off locations soon.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo State raised nearly $94,000 during its 2025 SEFA campaign, marking a milestone in community generosity. Leaders thanked donors & volunteers who supported charities including Stitch Buffalo and FeedMore WNY.  Buffalo State University
  • Corrections officers delivered holiday gifts at Oishei during the season, with the donation organized by the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association. The donation included gift cards and a $500 check.  WGRZ

  • James Dentinger was named EVP and Regional Director at the Golisano Institute on Dec. 19 (leaving his NOCO role). Neighborhood Health Center expanded services with a renovated Elmview location in Hamburg and a site at 2497 Delaware in North Buffalo, while Walden Galleria extended hours through Tuesday with holiday times.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra kicked off its cherished Holiday Pops concert series today at Kleinhans Music Hall, featuring classic carols, sing-alongs, and the debut of its Principal Pops Conductor Ron Spigelman. Additional performances will follow Saturday night and Sunday afternoon to bring the community together.  WGRZ
  • Kleinhans is showcasing 'The sounds of the seasons' where visitors can enjoy seasonal soundscapes (more event details will be shared later).  WGRZ
  • East Aurora's 53rd Annual Carolcade takes place today on Main Street in front of Vidler's, running from 7 p.m. & 8 p.m. and drawing visitors after its feature in a Hallmark movie.  ABC 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study found elevated lead levels in the soil at more than 100 homes on Buffalo's East Side. Officials are reviewing the contamination data to guide further testing and potential remediation of affected yards.  The Buffalo News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Hochul and Ontario Premier Ford signed an agreement in Buffalo on Friday to support advanced nuclear technology by partnering NYPA & OPG, which will share expertise to develop clean, reliable power for New York and Ontario. The deal also fosters cross-border collaboration on workforce training and electricity trade.  WBEN

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new state law mandates hospitals to designate language coordinators and provide trained interpreters so non-English speakers fully understand their care — local advocates say improved communication will reduce confusion and help patients with Medicaid and immigration paperwork.  WGRZ

  • The historic Williams-Butler Mansion is on the market for $4.9 million at 672 Delaware Avenue on Millionaires’ Row — a landmark stretch in Buffalo. Built in the 1890s by renowned architect Stanford White, it features 40 rooms plus a large carriage house with mixed-use potential.  ABC 7
