  • The Revelas Family Foundation hosted a chicken wing eating contest today in Buffalo to break a wing-eating world record and boost mental health awareness - drawing hundreds of local participants.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Dream Center distributed Boxes of Love to nearly 500 families Saturday by sharing food and clothes to boost holiday spirit. The initiative aimed to spread hope among local residents during the festive season.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buffalo artist Elizabeth Licata presents her world-renowned stained glass exhibit called 'The Wisdom in Our Hands.' The display showcases local craft & artistic tradition for community members to appreciate.  The Buffalo News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The SPCA rehabilitated a bald eagle with high lead levels and released her back into the wild in Niagara County. Officials say this effort is a key step in protecting local wildlife health.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo ice anglers are reminded to check that the ice is at least 4 inches thick before fishing as the early ice fishing season begins — officials stress safety on frozen waterways.  WGRZ
  • SPCA Serving Erie County treated a poisoned bald eagle by removing lead from its blood and conditioning it to fly again; the bird was found weak in Lewiston in late October and released in Niagara County earlier this month.  WGRZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The DEC has announced a Holiday Deer Hunt in New York’s Southern Zone that starts Dec. 26 and ends Jan. 1, allowing late bow and muzzleloader hunting. Hunters need a valid license and must wear blaze orange (if using a muzzleloader) to stay safe during winter outings.  WGRZ
  • The New York State DMV announced the Gold Star Family license plate—designed to honor families of fallen soldiers—which is now available for qualifying family members to order through the DMV website.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County reported 661 flu cases for the week ended Dec. 13 (up from 308 last week) and health officials warn more cases will appear before the holidays.  The Buffalo News
  • BestResponse Intensive Crisis Center at 430 Niagara St. is set to open soon to serve five counties and will handle about 4,000 patients a year + the new facility fills a long-standing community need.  The Buffalo News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today the Bills face the Browns at Huntington Bank Field in Orchard Park as the team continues to peak while working to clinch a playoff spot and a sixth AFC East title.  WGRZ
  • Buffalo Sabres secured a 3-2 win over the Islanders in a shootout on Saturday as Josh Norris scored the deciding goal for their fifth straight win. Strong play from Rasmus Dahlin and a 32-save effort by Alex Lyon helped the team maintain its momentum+  WGRZ
  • In the Bills' Week 15 win at New England, the NFL fined Rhamondre Stevenson $12,172 for unnecessary roughness (he struck an opponent with 3:41 left in the third quarter) after a play that shifted momentum.  WGRZ
