COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Buffalo Bills cornerback Christian Benford surprised more than a dozen students at Hamlin Park School on Monday afternoon by handing out bags with gifts from their Amazon wish lists as part of his 47 Hearts Foundation in partnership with Kids Escaping Drugs.  ABC 7
  • Big Big Table is a pay-what-you-can community café on Buffalo’s westside that offers fresh farm-to-table meals with no questions asked (a $16 suggested donation). Located at the corner of Hudson Street and West Avenue, it welcomes everyone and serves about 50 guests during its 3.5-hour daily service.  Spectrum News
  • The National Baptist Convention is considering hosting one of its annual conventions in Buffalo after meeting with local elected officials (and clergy members) to discuss plans. The proposal may lead to a key community event in the near future.  WGRZ
  • Maria Love Fund is accepting grant applications from local organizations. Eligible groups are invited to check the website (details on requirements and deadlines) for more information.  WGRZ
  • A Utah foster family visiting Buffalo nearly faced a serious incident when a driving error led them into Canada near Niagara Falls while the boys visited their birth mother — U.S. Border Patrol detained the two foster sons for seven hours until documentation proved they could legally be in the country.  WGRZ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Margaret L. Wendt pipe organ at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church fills Buffalo with the sounds of the season as it stands as the largest pipe organ between New York and Chicago and the 28th largest in the world. Visitors are invited to experience this unique musical offering.  WGRZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today at Persistence Preparatory Academy Charter School in Buffalo, 5th graders celebrated a Blazer Coating Ceremony by receiving new blue school blazers that mark their growth and reflect high test scores, with principal Jasmine Mungo noting the event boosted pride and accountability as they prepare for college.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hochul signed two laws on Monday that restrict kratom sales — one bans sales to those under 21 and the other requires ingredient labels and addiction warnings. The new rules aim to boost consumer safety and public health in New York.  WGRZ
  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced that starting in 2027 the minimum wage across the state will rise annually based on inflation + the change is designed to adjust wages with the cost of living.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Christina Van Ditto supports her daughter Gia’s journey on the spectrum using baking to build confidence via her YouTube channel — Baking With the Besties. Their approach fosters empowerment and encourages local families to embrace neurodiversity.  Spectrum News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Bills edged Cleveland 23-20 as James Cook rushed for 117 yards + scored two touchdowns while Josh Allen completed 12 passes for 130 yards and Greg Rousseau contributed on defense to limit Cleveland's attack.  Spectrum News
  • The Bills clinched a playoff berth on Monday night after the Colts lost to the 49ers, giving Buffalo the final wildcard spot. Their Week 17 and Week 18 games at Highmark Stadium will be against the Eagles and Jets.  WGRZ
