  • Buffalo Dream Center hosts its annual free lasagna dinner for 200 homeless people today at 3 p.m. (a Christmas Eve tradition) featuring music, prizes and a special message from Pastor Eric Johns, with local groups and volunteers keeping the holiday spirit alive.  WBEN
  • The City of Buffalo will host its 38th annual New Year's Eve Ball Drop at the Electric Tower with festivities starting at 10 pm on Dec. 31, inviting downtown residents to welcome the new year with a festive evening.  WGRZ
  • St. Luke's Mission of Mercy held its annual Christmas party to share holiday cheer with local residents at its community center, bringing neighbors together in a festive celebration.  WGRZ
  • Rev. Mark Blue briefed the council on Dec. 23 about the $1.1 million ARP funds used for the Seeing Us memorial at the Jefferson and Best Street site - plans call for a $15 million capital campaign launching early 2026 to honor the victims.  WBEN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lackawanna's Our Lady Victory Basilica will host a Midnight Christmas mass tomorrow to mark the 100-year anniversary of Father Nelson Baker’s first service on Dec. 25, 1925 — renovations are underway, and Pastor David LiPuma invites all to come home for Christmas.  WBEN
  • Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Main Street across from Anchor Bar houses the 28th largest pipe organ in the world with 11,000 pipes and 151 ranks. The church will hold its Christmas Eve service today with pre-service music at 9:45 p.m. + it continues a long musical tradition.  WGRZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Blood donors gathered at KeyBank Center on Tuesday to help ensure local hospitals had the blood needed during the holiday season. They received bonuses from the Sabres (free tickets and a t-shirt) as thanks for supporting the drive.  WGRZ
  • Erie County Medical Center installed a new Symani Surgical System (the nation’s 10th) to improve delicate microsurgeries like reattaching limbs and nerve repairs. Three trained surgeons are now using the robot as the hospital spends over a million dollars to boost patient care.  ABC 7

  • Ciminelli Real Estate will invest $50 million to convert 10-12 Fountain Plaza into up to 180 market rate apartments downtown — conversion work is set to begin in Q4 2026.  WBEN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Buffalo Bills players Josh Allen, James Cook and Dion Dawkins have been voted into the AFC Pro Bowl. The NFL says the event will start on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.  WGRZ
  • The Buffalo Bills clinched a playoff berth — the Colts lost to the 49ers on Monday.  WGRZ
