About this event

Hilarious musical comedy runs October 29–November 8 at the Taylor Theatre

LOCKPORT, NY – The Kenan Center is bringing Broadway-caliber talent, spectacular tap

dancing, and plenty of laughs to Lockport with Dames at Sea, running October 29 through

November 8 in the intimate, 153-seat Taylor Theatre. Directed by Kenan Center Artistic Director

Kevin Leary, this hilarious musical comedy celebrates the glamorous Hollywood musicals of the

1930s with outrageous characters, catchy songs, and show-stopping dance numbers.

The story follows Ruby, a young performer who arrives in New York City dreaming of

Broadway stardom. When the theater hosting her first show faces demolition, Ruby and her

fellow performers must find a way to save opening night, leading to romance, mistaken

identities, and a spectacular musical finale aboard a battleship.

Leading the exceptional six-member cast is Broadway veteran Bethany Moore (Mona), whose

impressive career includes the original Broadway companies of the Tony Award-winning revival

of Pippin and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Moore has also performed in New York City’s

acclaimed Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods and toured nationally and

internationally with Cats and A Chorus Line. A graduate of the University at Buffalo with a

master’s degree from NYU, Moore now shares her extensive professional experience with

students at UB and Niagara University.

Joining Moore is an equally accomplished ensemble, including West Seneca native Andrew

Kowalczewski (Dick), who has performed extensively aboard cruise ships; recent UB graduate

Audree Woods (Ruby), who has shared the stage with Broadway stars Sutton Foster and Kelli

O’Hara; and Eric Rivas (Lucky), fresh from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at Walt Disney World.

Rounding out the cast are Chicago-area theatre veteran Rebecca Bradford (Joan) and Robert

Zimmerman (Hennesey/Captain), whose opera career includes performing with the New York

Philharmonic.

“We are committed to bringing the very best talent and highest-quality theatrical experiences

right here to Lockport,” said Bill Patti, CEO of the Kenan Center. “Dames at Sea has long been

one of my favorite musicals. It is absolutely hysterical, full of incredible music and dancing, and

just a ridiculously fun night at the theatre. To have this caliber of talent performing in our

beautiful, intimate Taylor Theatre is something truly special, and I cannot wait for audiences to

experience it.”

Originally an Off-Broadway hit that helped launch the career of Bernadette Peters, Dames at Sea

has delighted audiences for decades with its affectionate parody of classic Hollywood musicals.

The Kenan Center’s production promises all the charm and excitement of a big Broadway

musical, just a few feet from the audience.

Dames at Sea runs Thursdays through Sundays, October 29–November 8, at the Taylor Theatre,

433 Locust Street, Lockport, NY. Tickets and performance information are available at
